Are you tired of hearing the same old tips for getting to the gym?
Perhaps you’ve tried scheduling your workouts, setting achievable goals, and finding a workout buddy, but nothing seems to stick. If you’re looking for fresh ideas to help prioritize your fitness, look no further. Here are some less common tactics to help you get your butt in gear and make it to the gym.
DRESS FOR SUCCESS
Start by getting dressed in your workout clothes first thing in the morning, or before leaving the office. This not only saves time but also serves as a visual reminder of your commitment to exercise. If you work from home and can wear anything, start your day in your workout gear. That way, when you’re ready to workout, you can simply get started! If you have to commute to work and hit the gym in the evening, get dressed at the office and drive straight to the gym. You won’t want to miss the chance to workout if you’re already dressed for it!
MAKE IT A COMPETITION
If you’re naturally competitive, turning your fitness routine into a competition can be just the motivation you need. Set goals for yourself and challenge a friend or family member to a friendly competition. For example, see who can run the most miles in a month or lift the most weight. At Ativo Fitness, our Sweat to Summer challenge is tailored to this very concept.
REWARD YOURSELF
Who doesn’t love a good reward? Set up a system to reward yourself for reaching your fitness goals. For example, if you make it to the gym three times a week for a month, treat yourself to a massage, a nice dinner out, or even a “cheat meal.”
USE VISUALIZATION TECHNIQUES
Visualization techniques can be a powerful tool for achieving fitness goals. Before going to bed, visualize yourself going to the gym, working out, and feeling great afterward. Imagine yourself achieving your fitness goals and how that will make you feel. This might take some getting used to, but channeling those post-workout endorphins can work wonders.
TRY A NEW WORKOUT
Sometimes all it takes to get motivated is trying something new. Sign up for a new fitness class or try a new workout routine. Mixing things up can help you break out of a fitness rut and keep things interesting. If you always used the rower at Ativo, jump on the ski or the treadmill!
FOCUS ON THE PROCESS, NOT JUST THE OUTCOME
Instead of solely focusing on your fitness goals, concentrate on the process of getting there. Celebrate small victories, such as going to the gym two days in a row or lifting heavier weights. By focusing on the process, you’ll feel more motivated and less discouraged if you don’t immediately see results.
At Ativo, understand that making it to the gym regularly can be challenging, but trying some of these less common tactics might be just what you need to make it a habit. Whether it’s dressing in your workout clothes before leaving work, turning your fitness routine into a competition, or focusing on the process, finding what works for you is crucial. So, try something new, and remember, consistency is key!
